Marcus Aurelius was a Roman emperor and a Stoic philosopher. He was born on 26th Apr 121 and passed away on 17th Mar 180. Marcus Aurelius Antoninus is the full name of the emperor. He was one of the last tilers who has been known as the Five Good Emperors and the last of the emperors of the Pax Romana which was the period of age in which Rome had relative peace and stability. He has also been a Roman consul in the years 140, 145, and 161.
Early life, Family and Relationship
Marcus Aurelius was born in Rome and his birth name was supposed to be Marcus Annius Verus. According to some sources his name might have been Marcus Annius Catilius Severus his birth name or maybe at some time in his youth life or it may have been Marcus Catilius Severus Annius Verus.

Later he was adopted by Antoninus for making him as an heir to the throne he was known as heir to the throne he was called as Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus which was upon his ascension till his death. In the chronology of the Roman emperors by Epiphanius of Salamis; the author has mentioned him as Marcus Aurelius Verus.
Success and career
Antoninus after his death in the year of 161; Marcus Aurelius became the ruler of the Empire. The senate soon granted him with the name Augustus and the title imperator and he was formally elected as pontifex Maximus, who is the chief priest of the official cults. He also made some resistance and later he was compelled to take the imperial power. It is suggested that this may also be called as genuine horror imperii, which is otherwise fear of imperial power. He has always wanted a philosophic life, But later from his training as a Stoic, he understood that it was his duty to take on with the imperial power. Though he has no personal affection for Hadrian which is related to meditations and he believed it was his duty to enact the succession ideas and so the senate planned to confirm things with Marcus alone though he refused to do office unless Lucius gets equal powers. He also got a reputation of being called a philosopher-king in his lifetime and it remains even after his death.
