Odeya Rush Early Life, Family

Odeya Rushinek was born to an Ashkenazi Jewish (Polish- and Russian-Jewish) family in Haifa, Israel. Her mother Maya Greenfeld was born in Soviet Russia and immigrated to Israel, whereas her father Shlomo Rushinek is a Sabra (Jew born in Israel). Her first name means “I will thank God” in Hebrew. She started writing and performing plays when she was eight years old in her hometown of Haifa, Israel.

When she was nine years old, her family emigrated to the US so that her father could accept a position as a security consultant in Alabama. Rush could only speak Hebrew and had no knowledge of English when she arrived. She lived in Birmingham, Alabama, where she attended the N. E. Miles Jewish Day School; later, she moved to Midland Park, New Jersey, where she attended the local public school.

Rush’s family relocated to Los Angeles at the start of 2013. She has six brothers, two sets of twins who live with their parents in Los Angeles, two older paternal half-brothers who live in Israel, and four who are younger than she is.

Before she became an actress, Rush started her career as a model in the United States during her childhood and adolescence, appearing in significant campaigns and commercials for clothing companies like Polo Ralph Lauren, Gap, Tommy Hilfiger, and H&M.

In 2018, she also served as the face of a summer campaign for a partnership between FILA and Urban Outfitters. Her first acting roles were in the 2010 episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm’s “Mister Softee” and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’s “Branded,” where she played Emily and Hannah Milner, respectively.
